Scenic Railway, Blue Mountains

Scenic Railway

What better way to absorb the breathtaking views of the Blue Mountains than to journey high above the canopy of the rainforest.

A 415 metre descent through a cliff side a tunnel into the rainforest below offers the steepest railway descent in the world. Once inside the ancient rainforest the opportunity to explore the rainforest via the Scenic Walkway is available.

The Scenic Walkway covers 2.8 km through the rainforest allowing visitors to come face to face with the local flora and fauna. The walk takes visitors to the Marrangaroo Springs where they can rejuvenate themselves with natural pure Blue Mountains water. If 2.8 km is a bit of a stretch, the Rainforest Room has bench seating for up to 110 people.

Along the way, the Coal Mine Exhibition is available for tourists and is worth a visit if passing by.

The Scenic Walkway will eventually lead to the Scenic Cableway platform.

The Scenic Cableway lifts you 545 metres up and out of the Jamison Valley, offering spectactular views of the surrounding rainforest of the Blue Mountains. The Scenic Cableway can lift up to 84 passengers.

If the heights of the Cableway are no deterrent, then the Scenic Skyway offers perfect views from 270 metres above the rainforest. With Electro-Sceniglass floor offering 360 views of the rainforest including the Three Sisters, Katoomba Falls, Mount Solitary and the Jamison Valley.

Getting to the Blue Mountains is easy enough, a relaxing train trip from Sydney takes about an hour from Central Station. Most trains go through to Mount Victoria, this however will take about 2.5 hours. The most popular way to get up the mountains is to drive. It takes about 90 minutes from Sydney to get to the main tourist destination of Leura and Katoomba.

Prices are fairly cheap for the Scenic Railway and Cableway, $19 for an adults return, %10 for kids. Even cheaper for the Skyway. Money well spent.

While in the Blue Mountains also consider visiting The Zig Zag Railway.

Stay at accommodation within the Blue Mountains and enjoy early morning scenic walks, breathtaking views and clean crisp mountain air.

There is so much to see and do in the Blue Mountains so if you are looking for an organised visit then try some tours of the Blue Mountains.
